A sympathetic renovation of a post-war house at Bondi in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.

We were called into this Bondi house to undertake a wide and varied range of building and renovation work, along with remedial work to repair problems that were causing other issues.
The house was built in the 1950s and, while the owner wanted to retain much of the home’s charming post-war features, there were areas of the property that needed upgrading to create a more contemporary style conducive to 21st-century living.

Replace rotting fascia boards and eaves

The first of the remedial repairs were to replace the rotting fascia boards and eaves.  These were in terrible disrepair and leaking causing damage to the timber window frames.

Replace custom leadlight and stained glass windows

Due to the water leaking in from the rotting fascia boards and eaves, most of the timber framed windows were rotted and needed to be replaced. We installed new, custom-made windows that featured stunning leadlight detail and coloured panels consistent with the age and style of the house.

We painted the house exterior and tiled the front patio.

Extensive landscaping in the backyard

Our landscapers undertook extensive landscaping work in the backyard including new retaining walls, garden beds, paving and paths. We also laid new grass.

Underhouse laundry renovation (i.e. transformation)

The existing laundry was an open area under the house.  Directly behind the laundry was the dirt and the house foundations.  The area was dirty, damp and spider-infested.

We enclosed the laundry area so it was a separate room.  We then added a door for entry into the under house area.

The new laundry was renovated with new gyprock walls, a tiled floor, marble-look benchtop, under bench cupboards and integrated sink. The transformation was fantastic and the laundry room is now clean and modern.

Excavation and paving of side of the house

The area down the side of the house had never been touched. This pathway provided the easiest access down to the laundry however it was often muddy and dirty.

First, we excavated the area to level it out. Pavers were laid and garden beds created.  We boxed in the utility bin area and created extra storage space for garden equipment.

Needless to say, the transformation of this muddy path into a clean and tidy walkway was very well received by the owners. They can now go down to the laundry easily without having to wade through puddles.
